Cathy Williams, MBA'77

Cathy Williams, as a member of the Queen's School of Business Advisory Board , is actively involved in school affairs. Whether speaking to students about personal and professional success - and perhaps, most importantly, the balancing act between the two - or by simply living her life as a model for all students to follow, Cathy has been a great asset to the school. We appreciate her participation and advice.

Cathy has fond memories of her time at Queen's. She enrolled in the MBA program in 1975 after completing an undergraduate degree in political science at the University of Western Ontario, working and traveling for several years.

Before joining Shell Canada as a senior analyst in 1984, Cathy worked for several companies including the Business Development Bank of Canada in Ottawa , the Bank of Canada in Ottawa and Toronto, and Nova Corp in Calgary. Currently, Cathy is CFO of Shell Canada, and last year she was named to the women's Executive Network "Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada " list, published in the Globe and Mail.

While thriving professionally, she has also found time for family life. In the course of her career, Cathy, with husband Bruce, has had three children. "What I'm happiest about is the fact that I've been able to earn an education, have an accomplished and rewarding career, have a family and a supportive husband of 25 years, and remain involved in the community," Cathy says.

Cathy is involved with several organizations including Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta, the United Way of Calgary , and Mount Royal College . She is proud of her achievements in the non-profit sector, remarking that "it's the whole sum that matters. I feel gratified that I have been able to do something with some of the many opportunities presented over my lifetime."

Cathy, you truly are an inspiration for our students.
