The United Way

The United Way Movement in Canada started in 1917 in Montreal and Toronto. Today, there are 125 United Way communities across Canada, and they exist in 50 other countries across the world. Their mission is: "To support and strengthen the organized capacity of our community to care for one another."

To achieve this, they continually raise funds, striving for annual growth to meet vital community needs; allocate donor dollars in response to current and changing human care needs; and strengthen the non-profit sector by providing organizational and other support services to community voluntary organizations. Their vision is a community with a strong social services network where individuals can develop their potential for self sufficiency and personal well being.
