Program content
Sessions feature international case studies, related practical exercises, and simulations relevant to the sector to ensure that the knowledge gained can be applied immediately.
Modules can be taken in any order
Program content is divided into two modules:

Module 1 - Leading in the External Environment
- A shared understanding of future key success factors for leaders within the mining industry. What makes a highly successful mining company from a multiple stakeholder perspective
- Managing the external environment: Frameworks for building and maintaining successful relationships (communities, government)
- Effective Risk Management strategies pertaining to the environment, permitting, energy, water, climate change and sustainability
- Corporate social responsibility and stewardship
- Challenges of doing business in an international environment/developing country
- Public versus private ownership and the implications for international development
- The strategic perspective

Module 2 - Leading in the Internal Environment
- The increasing diversity of Canadian society and rapidly changing values
- The "politics of difference" and sharpening disputes and divisions in Canadian society
- The changing role of governments in an environment of increasing demands for accountability, efficiency, and effectiveness
- Increased demands for citizen engagement in the policy process
- Addressing the balance between management and policy in efficient and capable government
Session Leaders
Session leaders include senior professors from Queen's School of Business and knowledgeable experts from industry. These outstanding teachers are constantly in touch with today's business world through real-world business experience, Board memberships and their own consulting practices.
