Murray, Elspeth

Dr. Murray is an Associate Professor of Strategy and New Ventures at the Queen’s School of Business. Prior to joining Queen's in 1996, she worked in industry for seven years.

Bitten by the entrepreneurial bug early in her career, Dr. Murray went on to create and institute many new venture related activities at Queen's School of Business, including a New Venture concentration within the Full-Time MBA Program and several internal Business Plan competitions designed to provide funds for entrepreneurs intending to launch new ventures. As a complement to her work in the new venture field, Dr. Murray specializes in the management of change. In 2002, she co-authored a book, Fast Forward: Organizational Change in 100 Days, Oxford University Press, with Dr. Peter Richardson.

In addition to her teaching and research activities, she is an active consultant for both private and public sector organizations. She has worked extensively with clients as diverse as the Auditor General for Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Finance, and BMW Canada. She is also a Director for Parteq, the commercialization organization for Queen’s University, and an advisor to several start-ups. Dr. Murray is currently the Managing Director for the QCED/QCBV (Queen’s Centre for Business Venturing), the entrepreneurship centre at the Queen’s School of Business. Dr. Murray received an undergraduate degree in computer science and mathematics, and an MBA, both from Queen's University. Her doctorate in Strategy and Management Information Systems was completed at the Richard Ivey School of Business.
