Personal Coaching Program

Today, all over the world, people in all levels of management are using personal development coaches to help them achieve their full potential.  The Queen’s Personal Coaching Program is a unique opportunity developed exclusively for Queen’s MBA students.

This optional program includes a series of personal assessments, such as the Gallup Strengthsfinder™, and TAIS – the Attentional and Interpersonal Style inventory.  You are also given the opportunity to work with a Personal Coach for the duration of the MBA Program. Our professionally-trained Coaches will help you identify and leverage your personal strengths and mitigate your weaknesses. They will help you strengthen your management and leadership skills, or address interpersonal challenges.  You will have the opportunity to choose your Personal Coach from our roster of coaches, and influence the direction of the coaching.

Our Coaches bring a wealth of work, life and coaching experience to the program, ensuring that the process is highly impactful and responsive to your specific needs.  No other MBA program offers this valuable experience.

Fit to Lead™

In today’s hectic world it is easy to forget that your ability to manage and lead is greatly influenced by your health and wellness.  That’s why Queen’s offers Fit to Lead™, an optional program that promotes physical, mental and emotional wellness.  You will receive many useful tips for developing a healthy and balanced lifestyle and have the opportunity to work with a fitness trainer to develop your own personal fitness regimen.

Understanding the Power of Teams

Queen’s MBA utilizes an approach to team-based learning that is far more advanced than that used in other MBA programs.  We believe strongly in our team-based approach because it mirrors today’s progressive workplace.  You will leave the program with a thorough understanding of the best practices for successful team-building and teamwork – well-prepared to be a valuable member of a high performance team.

Queen's MBA Team

Learning Teams

At Queen’s, you are assigned to a team for the core of the program, and a significant portion of your overall grade is derived from teamwork.  Each team consists of 5 or 6 students, carefully assembled to maximize diversity of gender, experience and cultural background.  Team members collaborate on assignments, projects and presentations, drawing on the skills and experience of each team member, greatly enhancing the learning experience.

Team Support and Facilitation

A great deal of time during the first week of the program is devoted to setting the tone for your learning teams. You and your MBA teammates will be led through a series of exercises designed to get acquainted; gain insight into each member’s preferred thinking style; formulate a team mission statement and group “norms”; and successfully conduct your first team meeting. You will be provided with proven processes and best practices for overcoming any obstacles that may arise during the year. A dedicated, professional Team Performance Coach is assigned to each team. Throughout the year, they will monitor the team’s effectiveness and provide regular feedback and guidance that is pivotal to the learning process.

Develop Your Team and Leadership Skills

Working with your team provides exceptional opportunities to develop and practice your team and leadership skills. Each team member is given numerous opportunities to lead projects as well as contribute to projects led by other team members.

Other Ways to Personalize Your MBA Experience

Queen’s offers three additional ways to personalize your MBA experience around your individual strengths and career aspirations.

International Exchanges

Consistent with the program’s global perspective, you will have the option of an international exchange at one of our 15 business school partners in Europe, Asia or South America. This provides an exceptional, cross-cultural learning experience in a region that is of particular interest to you. The terms and lengths of exchanges vary from school to school. Contact us for specific details.

Elective Streams

During the final module of the MBA program, you are given the opportunity to choose one of five elective streams, with the goal of deepening your understanding of the area that most closely aligns with your career aspirations. While most students choose to focus on one elective stream, you may instead choose to select a variety of courses from more than one stream to broaden your general management focus.

The five elective streams are:

  • Consulting & Project Management
  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Innovation & Entrepreneurship
  • General Management

Professional Designations

During the program, you may also take advantage of three professional development opportunities - a fast-track to a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation, a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
