Warren Bailey

Dr. Warren B. Bailey - Cornell - Finance

Warren Bailey's interests include international finance,international securities markets, and investments. He has a special interest in emerging capital markets, particularly in Asia. He has been featured and quoted extensively in the financial and mainstream press, including the New York Times, The Economist, and the Far Eastern Economic Review, and television interviews on CNN-FN and CNBC. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and the Pacific Basin Finance Journal. He received the Class of 1992 Award for Teaching Excellence and the Stephen and Margery Russell Distinguished Teaching Award in 1999.

Sanjeev Bhojraj

Dr. Sanjeev Bhojraj - Cornell - Accounting

Sanjeev Bhojraj's research interests are in the areas of discretionary disclosure of information by firms, corporate governance mechanisms, stock valuation and international accounting and analysis. His teaching interests encompass financial accounting and financial statement analysis. He received the Apple Award for Teaching Excellence and the Clifford H. Whitcomb Faculty Fellowship, both in 2001, and the Executive MBA Globe Award for Teaching Excellence in 2003. In addition, he received outstanding faculty recognitionint he 2003 edition of BusinessWeek's Guide to The Best Business Schools. He is certified as a Chartered Accountant and a Cost Accountant.

Louis Giallore

Dr. Louis Gialloreto - Queen's - Marketing & Managing Innovation

Louis Gialloreto is President of Stowe & Breton Ltd., an international consulting firm which specializes in executive training, customer relationship management, brand development, innovation, marketing planning and competitive marketing strategies. He has over 20 years of industry experience in airlines, wholesaling, retailing, and financial services, and has consulted to over 50 organizations. He is Director of the Executive Training Program at McGill University where he has won several teaching excellence awards. He is a visiting lecturer at a variety of institutions and programs, author of over 50 articles and books, and a speaker at business conferences worldwide. He also serves on several industry and community executive boards.

Yaniv Grinstein

Dr. Yaniv Grinstein - Cornell - Corporate Finance and Governance

Yaniv Grinstein's research and teaching interests are in corporate finance and corporate governance. He was recently working at the Securities and Exchange Commission as a Visiting Academic Scholar, continuing his research efforts in these areas. His current projects involve an analysis of the effect of the new governance rules in the U.S. on corporate value, an examination of executive compensation in U.S. corporations, and a look at the role of corporate boards in monitoring firms. He has published in several journals, including the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics. His research has been widely cited in major newspapers such as The Economist, Financial Times , Newsweek, New York Times, LA Times, and Forbes magazine.

Ori Heffetz

Dr. Ori Heffetz - Cornell - Economics

Ori Heffetz's interests lie in the social and cultural aspects of economic behaviour. He has explored phenomena such as conspicuous consumption, where consumers purchase visible goods in their attempts to advertise their wealth and gain social status. He is similarly interested in the use of consumption as a language to convey meaning and in its relationship to fashion and advertisements. He has worked with participants in both Executive and full-time MBA programs at Cornell. His dissertation was featured in the New York Times and in the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz. He has traveled extensively in developing countries, studying problems that lie at the crossroads of economics, society, and culture.

Rick Jackson

Mr. Rick Jackson - Queen's - Negotiations & Conflict Management

Rick Jackson is an outstanding educator and one of Canada's leading experts on dispute resolution. He is in high demand as a consultant and third-party neutral. He has served as an arbitrator under the Ontario Labour Relations Act and Canada Labour Code, and as an arbitrator and mediator in business disputes. He is a frequent guest speaker on labour relations, arbitration issues, and dispute resolution.

Vrinda Kadiyali

Dr. Vrinda Kadiyali - Cornell - Marketing & Economics

Vrinda Kadiyali works closely with firms regarding competitive strategies. She uses econometric models of game theory to study how firms compete with their rivals and their channel partners. She has taught a variety of courses, including Internet marketing, channels of distribution, and marketing models in MBA core and doctoral programs at Cornell. She is on the editorial board of several academic journals and has published in leading marketing and economics journals like Marketing Science, Management Science, Rand Journal of Economics, and Journal of Econometrics.

Elizabeth Mannix

Dr. Elizabeth Mannix - Cornell - Management

Elizabeth Mannix's research and teaching interests include: effective performance in managerial teams, diversity in organizations and teams, power and alliances, negotiation and conflict, and organizational change and renewal. Her work has been widely published in a variety of journals and she is the co-editor of the book series Research on Managing Groups and Teams, now in its 10th volume. Professor Mannix is also the Director of the Institute for the Social Sciences, established in 2004 at Cornell. She is the winner of the inaugural EMBA Globe Award for Excellence in teaching.

Jim McKeen

Dr. Jim McKeen - Queen's - Information Technology

Jim McKeen is a recognized authority on IT strategy. Among the premier researchers and educators in the field, he facilitates the networking of senior executives in the information technology sector through two well known industry forums. He has extensive international experience, having taught at universities in the U.K., France, and the U.S.A. Former Director of the Monieson Centre at Queen's School of Business, he directed a number of research projects focused on knowledge-based enterprises. Roni Michaely

Dr. Roni Michaely - Cornell - Finance

Roni Michaely is an expert in the area of corporate finance, capital markets and valuation. His current research focuses on conflict of interest in the capital markets, corporate payout policy, and the pricing and optimal trading mechanisms of IPOs. He is widely published in the leading journals and currently serves as an associate editor for the Review of Financial Studies. He has received several research awards and honours, and his research has also been frequently featured in The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Economist, BusinessWeek, and Forbes.

John Moore

Mr. John Moore - Queen's - Financial Accounting

John Moore is an experienced executive educator who is highly regarded in the accounting profession. He is the author of five accounting textbooks. He has conducted executive development seminars on financial tools for senior managers at Alcan, DuPont, Canon, Mitel, Shoppers Drug Mart, New Brunswick Power Corporation, Mountain Equipment Co-op, and Canada Post. He also works with members of senior management teams to integrate financial accounting concepts into strategic planning. A four-time winner of the MBA Teaching Excellence Award from Queen's University, he is also the recipient of the Silver Medal from CMA Canada and was made a Fellow of the Society of Management Accountants of Canada in 2004

Salman Mufti

Mr. Salman Mufti - Queen's - Management Information Systems

Salman Mufti has extensive teaching experience in both degree and non-degree executive education at Queen's School of Business, and with other national and international institutes. He is a former Director of Queen's National Executive MBA and of Queen's MBA for Science & Technology. In addition to his teaching and management roles at Queen's School of Business, he regularly advises senior managers in corporations and the public sector, and is frequently featured in the press on matters relating to information technology strategy and management. Elspeth Murray

Dr. Elspeth Murray - Queen's - Strategy & New Ventures

Elspeth Murray leads the new venture related activities at the Business School. The latest of these activities has been the launch of Tricolour Venture Fund, a student-led early stage investment fund. She teaches on many programs at Queen's, and the course she developed on new venture management has been recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the world's top ten Executive MBA courses. In 2002, she co-authored Fast Forward: Organizational Change in 100 Days, with Dr. Peter Richardson. She is an active consultant to organizations such as the Auditor General of Canada, BMW Canada, GlaxoSmithKline, Winnipeg Commodity Exchange, Mosaid, Bank of Canada, and Acklands-Grainger. She is also a Director for Parteq, the commercialization organization for Queen's University, and an advisor to several start-ups and CEOs.

Kathleen O'Connor

Dr. Kathleen M O'Connor - Cornell - Management & Organizations

Kathleen O'Connor is an organizational psychologist and a specialist in negotiation and team performance in business settings. Her current research concentrates on how negotiators' bargaining histories affect their performance at the table. Some of this work investigates how previous impasses and agreements affect negotiators' future deals. A second stream of work examines how negotiators' reputations, deserved or not, affect the quality of the deals they negotiate. Her research has been published in such journals as Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Journal of Applied Psychology, and the International Journal of Conflict Management.

Shawna O'Grady

Dr. Shawna O'Grady - Queen's - Strategic HR Management & International Business

Shawna O'Grady is an authority on team building, human resource management, and the cross-cultural aspects of international business. Director of Team Facilitation for Queen's MBA programs, she is an experienced team facilitator who is in high demand for her original approach to team building. She is also the author of Border Crossings – Doing Business in the U.S., an award-winning book on international business. Bo Pazderka

Dr. Bo Pazderka - Queen's - Managerial Economics

Bo Pazderka is an economist with expertise in the economics of research and development, the multinational pharmaceutical industry, health economics, and the transition of the former centrally planned economies of Central and Eastern Europe to free-market systems. He has worked at universities around the world, including France, Australia, the U.K., and Slovakia. He served on the Board of Directors of Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston, and was for many years a member of its Ethics Committee. He is co-author of several books, including It’s No Gamble: The Economic and Social Benefits of Stock Markets; Approaches to an International Comparison of R&D Expenditures; and Microeconomics: The Canadian Context.

Doug Reid

Dr. Douglas Reid - Queen's - Alliances & Strategic Management

Douglas Reid is an authority on corporate alliances and partnerships. His research focuses on how companies stabilize their alliances by providing network resources to partners. Formerly, he was vice president of an international consulting firm, handling corporate issues management in their Toronto and Ottawa offices. He has also worked for a former premier of Ontario and as chief of staff to a cabinet minister. He has written several op-ed columns for The Globe and Mail and the National Post, and has been quoted extensively in the media regarding corporate alliances and other strategic management issues. Dr. Reid holds a BSc and MBA from the University of Toronto, an MPA from Queen's University, and a PhD from the University of Western Ontario.

Peter Richardson

Dr. Peter Richardson - Queen's - Strategic Management

Peter Richardson teaches strategy courses on the Executive MBA programs and on a number of the School's one- and three-week executive development programs. During his 20 years at Queen's, Peter has authored over 75 papers and case studies on strategic management. Together with Elspeth Murray, Peter has written Fast Forward: Organizational Change in 100 Days, along with an accompanying practitioner guide. A previous book, Cost Containment: The Ultimate Strategic Advantage, remains one of the few books to be written on cost improvement. Peter consults widely with both public- and private-sector organizations including BHP Billiton, Alcoa, CIBC Mellon, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Auditor General of Canada, and Natural Resources Canada, working closely with senior executives on strategy development and deployment.

Lawrence Robinson

Dr. Lawrence Robinson - Cornell - Operations Management

Lawrence Robinson's research focuses on problems of operating in an uncertain environment; in particular, on developing practical heuristic policies that perform well and can be easily calculated. His research interests range from inventory management to booking limits for discount fare airline passengers, to scheduling doctor's appointments. He actively consults with companies in many industries and he has published in a variety of journals, including Operations Research, Management Science, IIE Transactions, and the European Journal of Operational Research. He has been a Mobil Scholar, and has been recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the top teachers in The Johnson School.

Sandra Spataro

Dr. Sandra Spataro - Cornell - Management & Organizations

Sandra Spataro has worked with organizations to examine how the formation of informal status hierarchies in organizations and status differences among coworkers are associated with demographic diversity. She has worked with participants in both Executive and full-time MBA programs at Cornell. Her research examines the influences of the market environment, the demographic composition of the organization, and an organization's formal and informal social structures on individuals' work experiences. Her publications have appeared in Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, Behavioral Sciences and the Law, and Research in Managing Groups and Teams.

Douglas Stayman

Dr. Douglas M. Stayman - Cornell - Marketing

Douglas Stayman's teaching and research interests are in the areas of advertising and consumer decision-making. He came to The Johnson School from the University of Texas at Austin. His research has focused on the study of emotional responses to advertising and the role of affect in decision-making. His work has involved methodological and measurement issues in studying emotions. He is also interested in theoretical accounts of the effects of emotions on people's preferences. His research has been supported by grants from the Ogilvy Center for Research and Development, the Marketing Science Institute, and the American Academy of Advertising.

Daniel Szpiro

Dr. Daniel Szpiro - Cornell - Managerial Accounting & Control

Danny Szpiro is an award-winning teacher and expert on financial management, including capital budgeting, post-investment review, and the Balanced Scorecard. He has taught in many graduate and executive degree programs and, prior to teaching, he spent nine years in sales, logistics, financial management, and other international activities in the consumer electronics industry. He has published on the topic of integrating capital budgeting and corporate strategy, and his guides on the use of the case method have been adopted by universities around the world. His numerous credits include CMA Teacher of the Year at Concordia University and contributing author to the Society of Management Accountants CMA Entrance Study Guide.

Joseph Thomas

Dr. L. Joseph Thomas - Cornell - Manufacturing

Joseph Thomas specializes in operations management. His teaching interests are supply-chain integration, manufacturing strategy, production and quantitative analysis. His publications have dealt with manufacturing management, forecasting, work-sharing systems, and the effect of marketing decisions on production planning. He has consulted for and been involved in management-education programs for several companies. His current research interests involve models for managing complex production- distribution systems and the ways in which these can be implemented effectively, considering the way people respond to different forms of work organization. He is a two-time winner of the Russell Distinguished Teaching Award, for 1995 and 2000.

Ken Wong

Dr. Ken Wong - Marketing

Ken Wong is one of Canada's most respected marketing professors, featured throughout the Canadian press. He has worked with the Strategic Planning Institute at Harvard University and the Conference Board of Canada, writes a monthly column for Marketing, frequently contributes to the National Post and is co-author of a top-selling marketing textbook. He is a 2006 inductee into the Canadian Marketing Hall of Legends and the 1998 Financial Post Leaders in Management Education award winner. He regularly judges both the “Entrepreneur of the Year”and “Canada’s 50 Best Managed” competitions. His extensive client list includes Microsoft, Equifax, Manulife, Hoffman-La Roche, Bell, TD Canada Trust, Tim Hortons, and federal/provincial governments. He is Chair of the Board, Everest Asset Management AG, and sits on a number of other advisory/directorship boards.

Roger Wright

Dr. Roger Wright - Decision Models

Roger Wright is a former Director of Queen's National Executive MBA. He has lectured internationally on production and operations management, has been responsible for the design, start-up, and management of several new manufacturing ventures, and has owned and operated a management consulting firm. He is author of several articles on solid fuel combustion efficiency, energy efficiency, and transportation safety, as well as management related articles in Naval Logistics Quarterly and Canadian Journal of Higher Education. He has won teaching excellence awards at the University of Prince Edward Island, the Royal Military College of Canada, and Nanyang Technological University (Singapore).
