Students present winning marketing strategy case

2004-03-20
- TORONTO, ON - A team of Queen's MBA for Science & Technology students captured the 3rd Annual Samsung MBA Case Competition held on Saturday, March 20 at the Rotman School of Management in Toronto. Students Ryan Garrah, Brook Hamilton, Ken Sun and Peter Tam represented Queen's in their victory over the other four MBA teams invited to the final round of competition: Rotman, Ivey (Western), Schulich (York) and Sir Wilfred Laurier.

Student teams were asked to present a business case on Samsung Canada's LCD Flat Panel TV marketing strategy. The panel of judges was comprised of business media, industry analysts and representatives from Samsung's senior management.

The competition began with a written case submission which was used to narrow down all competitors. Just five business schools were invited to the Saturday event final.

The Queen's case team would like to thank Queen's School of Business professors Ken Wong, Marc Busch and Salman Mufti for their support prior to the competition.

The 1st place prize package consisted of four 17-inch LCD HD Televisions and $4000.00 cash to be divided amongst the team members, as well as a 50-inch Samsung Plasma TV that will be donated to Queen's School of Business by Samsung Canada. The total value of the prize package is approximately $28,000. A summer internship position with Samsung Canada is also available.
