Dr. Michael Zack, internationally recognized for his expertise in knowledge management and business strategy, was welcomed on September 9th as the first Fulbright Chair at Queen's University by Queen's School of Business faculty, students and staff.

In November 2003, Queen’s School of Business secured the first Fulbright Senior Scholar Chair for a business school in Canada. Dr. Zack was chosen for the inaugural Chair from a prestigious list of applicants. He has taken up residence at The Monieson Centre in Goodes Hall, Queen’s School of Business. Established in 1999, The Monieson Centre is a global leader in researching the management of knowledge-based enterprises.

A professor at Northeastern University’s College of Business Administration, Dr. Zack’s research and consulting focuses on the strategic use of information and knowledge to improve organizational performance. While at The Monieson Centre, Zack will survey Canadian firms in order to assess how knowledge contributes to a firm’s ability to compete.

Dr. Zack delivered his first presentation to Queen’s business faculty and doctoral candidates on September 9th, followed by a welcome reception in the Atrium at Goodes Hall. His expertise and tremendous abilities as a mentor will be invaluable to PhD students and faculty.

Started by the US government in 1946, the Fulbright Program is one of the most prestigious scholarly programs in the world. The mission of the Fulbright Program is to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries through the exchange of people, knowledge and skills. The Program’s founder, Senator J. William Fulbright, saw it as a step toward building international cooperation.

Queen’s University and the Foundation for Educational Exchange in the US have made a five-year commitment to support the Fulbright Chair at Queen’s School of Business and will consider sustaining this position indefinitely should they secure an endowment.
