March 28, 2008
Commerce students Catherine Lee and Gregory Duggan have been crowned Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec and are each taking home a Mitsubishi Lancer with their new title. The two second year Commerce students won first place in Canada’s Next Top Ad Exec, a competition held at the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University. Open to all undergraduate, MBA and business minor students, organizers received 194 entries from 27 universities across Canada.
Ten teams from eight universities competed in the final round in Toronto by presenting their marketing plans for Mitsubishi Motors to a panel of 14 marketing experts from industry and academia.
Lee and Duggan, both originally from Vancouver, said it was never about the car but rather was all about the experience: “We are blown away with winning. We never really thought it could happen.”
Third place went to another Queen’s team — Sean Roberts and Michael Wallace, both in their fourth year of the Commerce program. Renzo Mendoza of Brock University, the only finalist to enter the competition alone, took home second place.
Nick Bontis, Director of Undergraduate Programs at DeGroote School of Business and competition judge, said that Lee and Duggan, “…went all the way, and looked at where the branding of Mitsubishi is today, as well as where the branding will be tomorrow.”
Student organizers of the competition said the event has attracted the attention of key sponsors from the marketing and advertising world, all interested in attracting and encouraging new talent, and furthering a program that is helping bridge the gap between industry and academia.www.topadexec.com
