The results of the annual Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grant competition are in and seven Queen’s School of Business faculty have been awarded funding close to $750,000. Once again, the number of QSB faculty receiving SSHRC funding is well above the national average.
SSHRC developed a special funding opportunity for 2008 as an initial step in support of research excellence leading to greater impact in the area of environment. The broad purpose of the Research Grants program is to support research and develop excellence in research activities about pressing Canadian environmental issues. QSB professor Dr. Jane Webster received a SSHRC Canadian Environmental Issues Research Grant for her proposed research on implementing environmental responsibility in organizations through information technologies and systems.
An NSERC Discovery Grant was awarded to Dr. Yuri Levin for his proposal on game- theoretic models in revenue management and dynamic pricing. Discovery Grants support ongoing programs of research (with long-term goals) rather than a single short-term project or collection of projects.
The following faculty received SSHRC standard research grants:
• Dr. Susan Brodt — Promoting a cultural mosaic in a multicultural workplace
• Dr. Kathryn Brohman — Customer managed interactions
• Dr. Peggy Cunningham — An open network approach to stakeholder engagement
• Dr. James McKeen — CIO role perceptions
• Dr. Michael Welker — The effects of mandatory international financial reporting standards adoption on market participants
SSHRC funding is one of the most prestigious research grants awarded to faculty at a business school.
