Information for Interested Companies

Companies interested in pursuing this opportunity need to consider the following:

Target Firms

We are targeting Asian national firms who do business internationally or those who aspire to this level as primary targets for participation in this internship program. Secondary targets may include international firms located in Asia but student applications targeting these firms exclusively will be given second priority.

  • Firms should be sufficiently sophisticated so as to be on par with the type of firm the students would typically expect to work for in Canada.
  • The position in the firm must be a real job and must provide value for the student.
  • There must be sufficient English speaking support at the firm such that the internship activities can be completed using spoken and written English.

Internship Term

Firms should be aware that the maximun eligible intership term is ten(10) weeks

Company Pre-approval Guidelines

Interested companies may submit a pre-qualifying application for participation in this program. The information related to pre-qualified firms will be posted to this website and students will then be able to reach out to these pre-qualified firms to explore internship opportunities further.

To secure pre-qualified status, the company submits a package to Tracey Mallen, Program Manager, containing the following information:

  • Company Name
  • Company overview
    • Should be at least one page in length
    • Supplemental web material
  • Specifics around the possible internship
    • Details on operations located in internship region
    • Internship location
      • Address
      • Phone, email
      • Key contact person
    • Type of operation
      • Details of local operation
      • Organizational chart for operation at which the internship is located
    • Internship job description
      • Key activities
      • Key deliverables
    • Proposed term of internship

Program Award Guidelines

Students who complete an internship and meet all of the program requirements will receive an award as follows:

  • Total maximum award of $600 CAN for each internship week completed.
    • Partial weeks are not eligible under this program.
  • Participating students will receive a partial payment of the award at the approximate halfway point of the internship.
    • The partial award will be half of the estimated total award.
  • The balance of the award will be disbursed to the student after the submission and processing of the necessary post-program materials.
  • The program award is completely separate, and not impacted in any way, from whatever the intern might earn as direct compensation from the employer.

Participating employers are encouraged to provide additional funding to their students. The award is intended to cover basic expenses only.

Once students are pre-approved for this program, they will proceed to secure, in principle, an internship with your firm. QSB may post potential company sponsors on this website, but please understand that, while QSB may advise pre-approved students of internship sponsors, it is the student's responsible to secure their own internship opportunity.

Formal application package.  No submissions will be accepted after March 16, 2012
